The amount of new building currently under way in Berlin is astounding. The entire city is scattered with construction cranes. Since the fall of the Berlin wall the city has been in the process of transformation. The entire infrastructure is being reworked. The rail system is to become one of the best and most efficient in Europe. Berlin plans to become the crucial central link between eastern and western Europe.

The most intriguing area of Berlin is the construction that is taking place in an area known as Potsdamer Platz. Before the separation of east and west this area was a central hub for the city, but for decades since the wall it laid vacant and in decay. Today an instantaneous urban fabric containing several blocks is being built at once. The core of a new Berlin is being created from a clean slate. Its success is guaranteed, still under construction, the whole Potsdamer Platz area is bustling with activity.

Berlin encountered an interesting dilemma recreating its infrastructure. East and West Berlin existed as separate entities. They evolved in completely different paths in extremely different manners. The integration of two different cites into one unified one that runs more efficiently than any other city is a true accomplishment.
