The
urban environment has a magnetic quality. It is the epicenter of societies greatest
accomplishments and worst ills. The city is a place of extremes managing to
coexist and flow to a seemingly mystic order. In this masters research project
I pursue a greater personal understanding of this environment. Specifically
my interest lies in the relationship between the Massiveness (Organization/Infrastructure)
and the smallness ( human experience) of the city. I set out to do this through
personal experiences gained through the opportunity of visiting a number of
cities within a short period of time. Through research and personal experience
my intention was to return to the huge scale of the Central Artery Project with
new eyes and interpretations, creating a proposal which would heighten the urban
experience in downtown Boston.
