A new experience is created for the occupation of an envelope of space which for the past 50 years had the function of high speed movement and transportation. The cinema is the new mode of transportation within the space. It is a mental escape as opposed to a physical. The theaters are elevated for this reason. Where once persons occupied this space at 60 m.p.h. they now occupy it as transportation to fantasy. Other types of cinemas, such as the glass enclosed night cinema and the outdoor theater provide alternate urban experiences. The cinema is an activity not relating to any specific timeof day, therefore it can provide life to all urban spaces which surround it anytime. Light and movement create activity in cities, therefore preventing the surrounding areas from becoming stagnant.
